You're able to add and remove anything that you need at any time using the Rainmeter software. The level of customization is again phenomenal. Included functions like changing input/output devices (Sound/video) on the fly and hyperlinking file folders make it as great a productivity companion as it is a computer monitoring software. The number of statistics you can show with Rainmeter is ridiculous. Rainmeter generally would sit "above" the wallpaper. As far as I can tell, that's it for system tie ins. There are no plugins that I have seen for any system information, though it can animate based on the sound output. The level of customization for the animations is phenomenal and done in real time. It retains the functional layer of icons and other dessktop interactions above it.
